Chan-Tresa Z.
Hester
Chan-Tresa Z. Hester is a proud veteran, advocate, minister, entrepreneur, mortician, and community leader whose life has been dedicated to service, leadership, and uplifting others. Born in Miami and raised in Jacksonville, she graduated from high school in 1997 before beginning a lifelong journey of leadership and impact. In 1998, she became a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. through the Gamma Xi Chapter at Florida Memorial University. One of her greatest accomplishments within Sigma Gamma Rho has been bringing in generations of her family, including her daughter and legacy, Azariyah B. Carr, and later her mother and reverse legacy, Idella M. Cue.
A woman of faith, Chan-Tresa became a licensed minister in 2007 and has always viewed service as a calling rooted in God. She has also shared her gifts through entertainment as a stand-up comedian under the stage name "Lady Tre," using humor and testimony to inspire and connect with audiences.
Chan-Tresa proudly served in the United States Army as a medic and medically retired with the rank of Sergeant. After suffering injuries during her military service, she courageously became an advocate against sexual assault in the military. Through sharing her survivor story, "Count It All for Good," she transformed pain into purpose. Her advocacy journey began with speaking at Sexual Assault Awareness Breakfasts and eventually led her to address leadership at Fort Gordon in 2012, as well as members of the United States Congress. Her efforts became instrumental in helping establish sexual assault awareness programs and support groups at Fort Gordon that continue supporting active-duty service members today. Her testimony and advocacy also contributed to awareness and changes connected to the Army SHARP Program.
Continuing her commitment to leadership and mentorship, Chan-Tresa worked alongside then-International Grand Polaris Robert Clark of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. to help create I-S.H.I.E.L.D., later serving as its Program Coordinator in 2016. That same year, she also became a member of Alpha Gamma Xi Military Sorority through the National Line of Pi. She is additionally a proud member of Iota Sweethearts, Inc. since 2003.
Education has remained a cornerstone of her journey. She earned an Associate degree in Sociology from Rowan College in 2005, later graduating from Thomas Edison State University with a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies. Following her passion for death care services, she earned an Associate degree in Mortuary Science from University of the District of Columbia in 2023 and was inducted into the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
As a mortician and dedicated death care professional, Chan-Tresa now continues her service through the National Cemetery Administration as a Cemetery Representative, where she compassionately assists military families during some of their most difficult moments and helps loved ones begin the grieving and healing process with dignity and care.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Chan-Tresa is deeply committed to community service. She currently serves as the first and Founding President of Beauties In Boots Women's Veteran Club, an organization she views as a ministry rooted in God. Under her leadership, Beauties In Boots serves both veteran and civilian communities while creating a united sisterhood of women who have served, are currently serving, or continue to serve in the military and beyond.
Above all, Chan-Tresa Z. Hester is a devoted mother, mentor, servant leader, and trailblazer whose life story reflects resilience, faith, advocacy, sisterhood, and unwavering dedication to helping others.
My life has been dedicated to service, leadership, and uplifting others. Beauties In Boots is not just an organization—it is a ministry rooted in God, creating a united sisterhood of women who have served and continue to serve.
